Colgate Palmolive to give financial aid to needy students

 Colgate-Palmolive is committed to giving Kenyans and their children a future they can smile about. The global consumer goods company has been living this commitment through its Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program, which has been reaching children around the world with oral health education for the past 25 years.

 

“As part of our ongoing commitment to children’s health and education, we are launching this scholarship campaign to give Kenyan families the opportunity to win a scholarship to help ease the financial costs of educating children. A total of 16 scholarships will be awarded across Kenya, helping to give children a brighter future,” said Cheslin Twigg, Colgate East West Africa Professional Relations Manager.

 

Scholarship prize money totaling $12,800 USD will be split among the 16 winners, in all schooling phases for children ages 7 to18 years old. Winners will receive the money to use towards tuition fees, stationery or textbooks.

 

Speaking during the launch of the campaign, Professor Loice Gathece, Formerly Dean, University of Nairobi, School of Dental Sciences, said students must be free from oral disease such as dental carries, periodontal disease, dental fluorosis. She adds these diseases are preventable yet still remain prevalent not only in Kenya, but the world.

 

“These diseases are known to cause many conditions including to low birth weight, pre-term births, loss of school hours which in turn affects children’s performance, poor quality of life because a child is unable to chew, sleep or concentrate, low self-esteem among other things,” said Professor Gathece.
