“Despacito” Breaks Record For Youtube’s Most Viewed Video Of All Time


Luis Fonsi’s music video for “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee has broken the record for the most viewed video of all time on YouTube, a record that was previously held by Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth after overtaking five-year record holder “Gangnam Style” by Psy.

On Friday, August 4, the official music video for “Despacito” hit 2,993,786,682 views and surpassed “See You Again” (which was at 2,993,651,270) to become the most viewed video of all time. The video is also on track to soon become the first video of all time to surpass 3 billion views on YouTube.

The song received 874,732 views in Kenya, the sixth highest in Africa, and the highest in East and Central Africa region. In Africa, Morocco took the first position with 12,188,501 views, followed by Egypt at 10,420,747, Tunisia 7,485,117, Algeria 7,471,457, Mauritius 185,744 and South Africa 1,728,104. In Tanzania, views stood at 213,961, while Nigeria had 155,079. Uganda had 55,880 views, Rwanda 52,302, Somalia 54,290, Burundi 14,678 and 4,298 views in South Sudan.

It took just 203 days for the official music video for “Despacito” to become the most viewed video in YouTube history (these numbers do not include the also popular video featuring Justin Bieber, which has 464m views).

It has been viewed over 1 million times in over 99 countries, racking up massive views in countries as diverse as as Mexico (376 million), Brazil (213 million), United States (183 million), Italy (142 million), France (80 million), Indonesia (36 million), United Kingdom (36 million), India (32 million), Israel (17 million) and Egypt (8.8 million).
